Let’s face it; Steven Segal doesn’t really have a career anymore. He’s
past his prime and popularity, but you’ve got to give him credit for still
churning out action films at every chance he has. But, unless he stars is
a film with another big star, all his recent films become straight-to-video
wonders, further proving that Segal’s career is fading. One of these films
is Belly of the Beast, an action film that has so many flaws it just becomes
annoying to watch. In Belly of the Beast Segal plays a C.I.A. agent who plays
against the rules (it seems to be the only role he can play in his career)
and travels to Thailand to rescue his daughter from a terrorist group. While
it has its brief but decent moments of action, that all this film has going
for itself. The acting is bad, the script is horrible, the direction is feeble,
and even the production values are down the drain in this film. Apparently,
if you put palm trees in the middle of Vancouver it will look like a city
in Thailand. It is really that bad. Will it actually find an audience on DVD?
Well, the DVD is nothing to get excited about either. The film has been
given an adequate transfer. The widescreen image is a little light and lacks
some contrast. Film grain is quite visible in the darker areas of the image.
The 5.1 Dolby Digital soundtrack has some range but not a lot of kick. The
only extras on the disc are the film’s trailer and trailers for other straight-to-video
wonders. Obviously there wasn’t enough confidence or interest in this film
that any extras has to be made for
A Steven Segal film has never been this bad before. Even the hardcore fans
of Steven Segal will be disappointed by this atrocity. What else can be said?
It just blatantly sucks! Even a couple of the extra trailers on the disc were
more entertaining than this film. And since nothing else is offered on this
DVD, then you really got to ask yourself ‘what’s the point?’ The answer is
there is no point. A horrible movie along with a lackluster DVD makes for
a very disappointing release that you can skip. Don’t waste your time
