Chastity

Oscar winner Cher makes an impressive debut as a reckless rebel
who's taking the fast lane on the road... to nowhere! Written and produced by Sonny Bono,
Chastity is a gritty, gutsy ride through a powerful, emotional landscape filled with love,
adventure, tragedy and truth.
Desperate to escape her dark past, wild child Chastity hits the streets on a quest for
freedom - only to find herself launched on an electrifying odyssey of self-discovery. But
as she thumbs her way cross country - and ends up at a seedy brotherl in Mexico with fewer
and fewer options - she finally begins to see that the only safe place to run... is into
the arms of the one man who truly loves her.
MGM's DVD presents Chastity in fullscreen and 1.85:1 anamorphic
widescreen. Yep you guessed it, this DVD is a flipper. Grrrrrr. I hate flipper discs! The
picture has it's good points and it's bad points. On the good side, the colours are nice
and 70s looking and the depth of detail in dark green (supposedly black) areas isn't as
bad as it could be. The film has a nice dirty look to it which is nicely recreated in the
transfer. The bad comes in the form of a lot of grain and damage to the film print
especially in the opening sequence. Luckily it does get better as the film goes on but not
enough to say it's not distracting. The Dolby 2.0 mono soundtrack is acceptable. It's a
nice light and soft mix that complements the film in a nice way. Sonny Bono's musical
score is kept on the low end and for the most part is alright. Though I did find the title
song pretty lame.. A teaser trailer is the only extra and considering the fact that this
film flopped in theaters and more then likely will flop on DVD, this isn't surprising.
To tell you the truth, I wasn't as turned off of this film as I
thought I would be. Cher actually does a decent job of a somewhat mediocre film. This is
no Oscar winner of course. Hell it's not even something that would get nominated but if
you enjoy the road trip films of the 70s then this is right up your alley. I wouldn't
recommend anyone buy it other then die hard Cher fans but I can honestly recommend a
rental... if you've run out of other movies to rent.
