If you're a fan of horror or better yet comedy or...ummmm. How about
if you love your comedy full of horror. Or is it horror full of comedy. Well either way,
if you like to laugh as people get killed spewing blood all over, then Dead &
Breakfast is right up your alley.
Six friends on a road trip gone wrong. A sleepy, creepy Texas town. A sinister inn with
murder on the menu. And an army of the undead who can only be stopped by decapitation or
chainsaw. Sure it sounds very familiar but add in some jokes, some musical numbers and a
tribute to Thriller dance number and you've got the best of both genres since Dead Alive,
Bad Taste or even Shaun of the Dead. Wait, that last one was recent. But who cares cause
it was good too!
Being a low budget film, flaws are expected but Anchor Bay has managed to
put together a pretty decent video presentation. The colours themselves are
well recreated so much so that you can tell when scenes were "over lit" with
coloured lighting such as blue or green or red. There is some grain present
at times as well as some edge enhancement but overall the 1.85:1
anamorphic widescreen transfer look very rich. There is little to no damage
to the source print and even the black levels are decent. A little washed
out, but decent.
Presented in both Dolby Digital 5.1 and 2.0 surround, the audio on this DVD
is very acceptable. This is no Hollywood blockbuster soundtrack but it
gives off the right mood for this film. The surrounds are used enough to
warrant including a 5.1 track and the bass response, though not amazing, is
effective. Dialog, music and sound effects are all at audible levels
without overpowering each other.
This DVD has quite a few nice additions to it. First up is not one but two
commentaries. First includes Director Matthew Leutwyler, Special Effects
Supervisor Michael Mosher and Actors Erik Palladino and Zach Selwyn. The
second track includes Matthew Leutwyler and Actors Ever Carradine, Jeffrey
Dean Morgan, Erik Palladino and Oz Perkins. Both are quite active
throughout. We're also treated to about 9.5 minutes of deleted scenes.
Nothing too special here but a nice addition either way. There's also a
blooper reel which has it's moments but isn't the best I've ever seen.
Additional Music is an interesting extra as it's basically deleted scenes
but more specifically, deleted scenes of our fun musical friend Randall Keith Randall
singing his heart out. Second to last is a Poster & still gallery which has some nice
shots but isquite small considering some photo galleries have well over 100 pics. Inthe
end we are treated to trailers for Dead & Breakfast, All Souls Day, It Waits and Bruce
Campbell's The Man With the Screaming Brain.
So you know about the movie, your know about the DVD and you know how I feel. Now it's
time to make up your own mind but I have a few last words regarding this DVD.
BUY IT NOW!!!!!!
That is all.
