Okay, now I know Dora the Explorer is all the rage with the little
ones but somebody shoot me if I ever let my kids (when I have them) watch this garbage.
Now I know many people will not agree with me but growing up I hated shows like this. I
wasnt into Sesame Street, Polka Dot Door, etc. I found them to be slow,
uninteresting, and the music (which is the one thing I really remember about childhood)
was boring and generally terrible. Now I watch an episode of this Dora character and
find
kids shows have gotten slower, less interesting and the only thing they have
going for them
sometimes the music is alright.
This DVD is presented in fullscreen format and looks amazing. The colours come through
very nice and theres no print damage or grain. But its what I would expect
from a new television show. The audio comes to us in Dolby Digital Stereo and is crisp and
clear throughout. The dialogue, music and background sounds are well mixed to create a
somewhat pleasing listening experience.
Where this DVD gets most of its potential is in its extras. First off this isn't
just Dora's Halloween. NO we also get to watch "To the Monkey Bars" and
"The Big Storm." Oh joy! Then there's "Dora's Halloween Hunt" Game.
This extra has to be the lamest game ever created for a DVD. I'll give it credit for one
thing. It forces parents to actual participate with their kids in order for it to make any
sense. You see, all it is is a bunch of pictures with a question, no audio or video, and
basically all the kids can do is point at the screen (or have their parents help them).
There is no interactivity. What a waste! Next is a bit of advertising for other great Nick
Jr. fair in "Nick Jr. Baby Video Sneak Peek." Obviously this was about as
entertaining as... well Dora herself. Last and of course not least we get some previews
for Blue's Clues: Blue Talks, Dora's Pirate Adventure, Peanuts DVDs and Charlotte's Web 2.
In the end I cant honestly recommend this DVD due to personal beliefs. But if you
are a big fan of Dora or your kids cant seem to live without her, then theres
no reason you shouldnt own this DVD.
