Dawn Of The Living Dead

What happens when you put Dawn of the Dead together with Night of the Living Dead?  Well you sure don't get Dawn of the Living Dead, though I'm sure the makers of the film would like you to believe that.  When I started watching the film I thought to myself that it was an alright low budget horror flick from the 80s.  But then, near the end of the film, some CG effects showed up and upon checking the packaging I found out this was made in 2006.  Eek!

When a young couple inherits ownership to an abandoned California property, they decide to make it the home of their dreams. Little do they know, but fate has delivered them a nightmare in the form of an army of undead zombies.  Their dream house sits atop an ancient burial ground, cursed by an evil Mayan ritual killing. Now, with fresh meat nearby, the undead emerge to feast on the living and deliver their zombie carnage. The fate of the world is in the hands of our two, terrified homeowners, who must find a way to stop the undead before it's too late!

The audio and video on this DVD aren't much to speak about.  The video is the worse.  Most the fault doesn't lie on the mastering company as I'm sure they delivered exactly what they were given.  Skin tones are very red and lighting is sporadic to the point that I can't tell if it's day, night, dawn or dusk half the time.  This is just a mish mash of bad camera work, cinematography and lighting.  Extras are limited to a trailer which gives away all the best scenes and yet manages to make the movie look alright (as a trailer should) and a behind-the-scenes featurette which has a lot of on set footage but doesn't tell us a lot about the film. I wasn't expecting much from the featurette considering how bad the film was but usually low budget flicks have very extensive behind-the-scenes extras.  Unfortunately, this extra isn't much better then the film itself.  In fact, it might just be worse as you have to listen to the really bad theme song for the film.

This movie should only be seen by zombie fanatics and even then, it comes with a warning.  It is so amateur that it would probably hurt most people to watch it. I'm disappointed they had to go and ruin a good film name like Dawn of the Living Dead and I hope Mr. David Heavener (actor, writer, director, producer) stops making films right now.  He makes Uwe Boll look good!
