The Double-D Avenger

The Double-D Avenger

The Double-D Avenger is just one of those movies...

The acting is terrible, script is horrible and the film, overall, is absolutely horrendous. It's a 17-car pile-up. The kind where everyone slows down to get a peak. The kind that takes you an hour and a half just to reach it. You’re angry at all the drivers ahead of you who have slowed down to look, only to slow down to take a look at it yourself and find that isn’t much to look at! That is exactly what the Double-D Avenger is all about. It's horrifyingly bad and disturbing to look at, yet you can't stop watching. When the final credits roll you sit back and realize, that you've just lost 77 minutes of your life that you can't get back.

The Double-D Avenger is about busty Chastity Knott who after finding out she has breast cancer, leaves her bar and travels to the Amazon in search of a healing fruit. After tasting, licking and sucking the fruit she develops super powers. Now she must use her amazing new abilities as the costumed crime fighter, the Double-D Avenger, to stop evil bikini bar owner Al Purplewood and his murderous strippers who are attempting to kill her in order to steal her business.

The Double-D Avenger is presented in a 1.33:1 full frame format. The image
is clean as there is no inherent grain, dirt, or debris. The colours are soft and the shadows are lacking and without depth. The transfer shows no signs of compression or pixelation. Everything you might come to expect from a low budget video recording.

The audio on this disc is presented in Dolby Digital 2.0 stereo. Dialogue is usually clear and audible but the level does drop from time to time. The score is generally well balanced and allows you to hear everything else relatively well. The sound effects on the other hand are really loud and very goofy. They end up being very annoying.

Elite Entertainment has provided an all right selection of extra material for
this DVD release. The main feature of this disc, is the Joe Bob Briggs Audio
Commentary. He's incredibly smart and knowledgeable about films of all kinds and gives us a bunch of obscure facts about almost everyone involved with the film as well as some that aren't. Always funny and intelligent, a Jo Bob Briggs commentary is never one to be missed, and this track is certainly no exception. Also included on this DVD is a behind-the-scenes. Presented in 1.33:1 full frame format and Dolby Digital 2.0 it runs a long 75 minutes (almost the same length as the film itself).

There are interviews with just about everyone involved with the film and
plenty of behind-the-scenes footage. Unfortunately the featurette is way
too long and much of the footage is almost exactly the same as what's
actually in the finished film. It’s not a bad piece it’s just too much and should have probably been broken into several shorter pieces. We also have a Photo Gallery of 22 still images as well as two trailers for The Double-D Avenger. The theatrical trailer is incredibly cheesy, while the cable spot is simply an advertisement for the previous DVD release of the film. Both are presented in full frame and Dolby Digital 2.0.

While the Double-D Avenger isn't much of a film to watch, Joe Bob Briggs
Presents: The Double-D Avenger makes for an entertaining DVD. Ok maybe it's just the Joe Bob Briggs commentary that makes for an entertaining DVD but after all, isn't Joe Bob Briggs the only reason to get this DVD in the first place? For fans of low budget crap films, this might be something to pick up. For everyone else, don't bother. Though it would probably make for a great drinking game!

PS I let my mother watch the film (she said she wanted to watch it) and she somewhat enjoyed it. She still mentions "ooga boobies" every now and then. *shrug*
