UFC: Best Of 2010 (Blu-Ray)

The premier mixed-martial art league, the Ultimate Fighting Championship, sure had an amazing collection of history-making fights and moments in the year 2010. I would go even so far as to say that that it was perhaps the greatest year the organization has ever enjoyed for making headlines and providing solid competitive entertainment. Once again the most newsworthy and prominent fights are collected in a yearbook-type 2-Disc Blu-ray edition following the previous year's release of Best Of 2009.

The Content

The 2-Disc edition amasses an incredible line-up of the UFC's greatest moments of the year, and progresses through those highlights by covering the most pertinent topics. Broken into a two-part summary spread over the multiple discs, the presentation spotlights what some of the up-and-coming contenders and superstars of the league accomplished professionally over the year. This is a great catch-up option for fans if you missed any of the big pay-per-views. You can relive in their entirety the comeback and then fall of Brock Lesnar regarding his Heavyweight Championship, how close Chael Sonnen came to defeating Anderson Silva, Chuck Liddell's last kick at the can, or how George St. Pierre pummeled Josh Koscheck for five straight rounds. The piece also covers what headway the league made regarding its reality show The Ultimate Fighter, and how it finally broke through the political red-tape to bring the UFC to Toronto, Ontario, Canada in April of 2011.

The Additional Appeal

Unlike most of the UFC event releases, this package presents UFC at its absolute best viewing and audible quality possible. The image is a gorgeous high-definition transfer, with the audio containing a complete 5.1 surround sound mix. Some fights are shown in their entirety in the main piece (like Sonnen Vs. Silva), while others are summarized visually. But the good news is that those fights, plus a series of bonus fights not shown in the presentation, are tacked on as extra material. Their are 25 additional fights along with a behind-the-scenes segment that act as the supplemental content.

A Fantastic Blu-ray Edition

When I viewed the Best Of 2009 disc, I thought it was a good summary but not a perfect edition thanks to the entertainment value of the fights shown. Best Of 2010 is far better than it's predecessor thanks to such an incredible array of talent and thrilling moments. The fact that you can watch these bouts in full high-definition picture and sound (and this is the only place to see them that way) should be more than a big hook for hardcore fans. There may not be much variety in the extra's department, but to give you an onslaught of additional fights in their entirety is like adding on a few pay-per-views into one disc, so the value is high in my opinion. This is a fantastic Blu-ray edition that every UFC fan has to seriously consider adding to their collection.
